The NI PXIe-8880 is a high-performance Intel Xeon E5-2618L v3 processor-based embedded controller for use in PXI Express systems. With the 2.3 GHz base frequency (3.4 GHz single-core, Turbo Boost mode) eight-core processor with up to 16 hyperthreaded virtual cores and the triple-channel 1866 MHz DDR4 memory, this controller is ideal for processor-intensive RF, modular instrumentation, and DAQ applications.

The NI PXIe-8880 embedded controller adds the power of Intel Xeon workstation CPUs to test engineering applications. The multicore (eight-core) processing power of Intel Xeon and PCI Express Gen 3 technology gives you 2X the bandwidth performance of PCI Express Gen 2 technology and 2X the processing power of a quad-core CPU, which makes it a future-proof, zero-compromise investment for any test or measurement application.

Applications
This embedded PXI Express controller is the de facto choice for high-performance, high-throughput, and computationally intensive test and measurement applications such 5G cellular research, semiconductor production test, and RF record and playback as well as any application for which test time and time to market are important. Because of the CPU’s multicore nature, this embedded controller is particularly useful when paired with system design software that is optimized for parallel processing such as LabVIEW and TestStand.

Intel Xeon E5-2618L v3 Processor
With driving forces such as increasingly complex requirements and reduced time to market, being able to leverage the latest, most powerful commercial off-the-shelf processors is paramount for any test or measurement application. The Xeon E5-2618L v3 processor from Intel features technology such as Intel Integrated I/O, which saves power, reduces latency, and delivers data to the processor up to 30 percent faster, and Intel Advanced Encryption Standards New Instructions, which accelerates and strengthens encryption to enable faster and more secure online transactions and improved data protection.
